This month marks the unfortunate anniversary of 9/11. I think many of us can tell you what we were doing and how we felt on that dreadful day. On that morning we had just begun our daily Investigations meeting when Susan, our Administrative Secretary came in and told us a plane had hit the first tower of the World Trade Center. The meeting shifted from daily business to discussions about the airplane. A few years earlier, a bomb exploded at the same location. Could this be another terrorist attack? With little information to go by, we didn’t know. How could a plane get so far off course and hit a tall building on a clear day? It couldn’t be an accident.
We didn’t have a television in our office so the meeting ended and we walked to the local YMCA. As we stood there watching, I wondered about the people on the upper floors. How would they be rescued? What were the terrifying thoughts of those passengers and crew during those last moments? Then, we saw another plane hit and we knew we were under attack. We stood there frozen in place, taking in the sight of the evil being forced upon our nation. I will never forget the sight of those that chose to jump to their death. One never knows the last views or thoughts of a person driven to the point of despair. I can only imagine their hanging to the edge of the scene as the heat became unbearable.
This is EXACTLY what the terrorists wanted – to push our people to the point of fear and despair. We should never forget these intentional attacks against us and the ongoing intent to reduce America to a nation of subservients. Today, we have representatives of the same culture intending to build a mosque near the attack site. These same individuals refuse any discussion of another location. It’s not about the right of a mosque – it’s about what is right and noble. To those pushing for this in-your-face reminder of the attacks, it is about domination and showing that America will submit. Those individuals and some politicians have lost (or perhaps never had) Americas’ best in mind.
We as a nation are at a crossing point. For many, a prior election was perceived as an opportunity to bring change to our country and make it stronger. Today the tide is changing and many people now recognize tidal changes often bring in the seaweed and kelp that can strangle those attempting to swim in free waters. This is not about Democrat or Republican sides of the aisle. This is about building our nation as a strong fortress against those wanting to bring us under siege, remove our sovereignty and destroy us. I believe there are politicians from both sides that need to go away. I also believe many with ideals counter to American success are elected because many are unwilling to do their own homework. Some listen to the media or others who tell them how they should vote and think. This is not democracy; it is socialism.
Nine years ago we were under a continual attack as we had seen prior strikes against American interests. Today those same ideals of bringing America to her knees continue. Many years ago I read a book, “The Naked Communist”. It was written by a socialist describing a list of objectives intended to destroy our nation. In the late 60’s when reading this, many had already taken place. Today we have many (both within and outside) our country intending to remove American sovereignty. Rather than protect our borders, some in our government are more concerned for the right of criminal invaders than the rights of Americans to live in peace. Our economy is destroyed, people are out of work, they are losing their homes and are entering a new level of despair – a place where our enemies want us. We have seen domestic attacks in our nation by those with Islamic ideas and interference by those telling us we are not tolerant. At the same time, we see Christian and Jewish worship come under attack by both special interest groups and the U.S. courts.
When it comes to longevity of American democracy, the right to live in peace and worship the GOD that blessed this country, we have no responsibility to be tolerant of those that want to remove our rights.
I noted earlier that this is not about a political party. Yet, some will dig their heels in, close their eyes and cover their ears intending to hear only what someone else has told them to think. Others will put their shoes on and walk to the polls in November. There is no doubt that our nation remains under attack from both within and outside our borders. The questions we all have to ask ourselves is: Do I feel safer today that nine years ago? Is our nation fiscally stronger today? Do our citizens feel able to provide for their families? Will our children and grandchildren have a place where they can live a free and prosperous life? If not, we need to stop listening to others and ask what WE will do about it.
